Pascack Valley Rail Line to pilot ticketing app for smart phones Riders on the Pascack Valley Line now have the option of using their smart phones to purchase tickets, according to NJ Transit. MyTix, a smart phone application, is being piloted exclusively on NJ Transit’s Meadowlands and Pascack Valley lines and will give customers the ability to purchase and display tickets from their cheap ntelos phones, according to an April 25 press release issued by the agency. “The ultimate goal is to put this technology into the hands of all our customers,” Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit Board Chairman James Simpson said. “We are testing mobile ticketing as part of NJ Transit’s ongoing effort to tap into the latest technology to improve the overall experience for our customers.” The Pascack Valley Line was selected because its “smaller customer base” and “more consistent rail crew and equipment assignments” provide “an ideal testing and training environment.” The mobile app was designed using input from customer focus groups, as well as from the agency’s employees and customer service staff. Commuters can use the app to purchase one-way tickets and monthly passes securely on their mobile devices for traveling on the Pascack Valley Line, as well as between New York’s Penn Station and the Meadowlands Rail Line for special events. NJ Transit requires that tickets bought using MyTix must be activated prior to boarding the train and displayed to train crews upon request. Also, commuters who transfer at Secaucus Junction must hold their smart phones up to ticket barcode reader to pass through the fare gates. MyTix is available for free download on any web-enabled iPhone or Android and through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, according to NJ Transit. Additional information on MyTix is available on njtransit.com under “Ticket Options.”
